I was inspired to start writing on this blog again. It’s been such a huge part of my life for a long time, but I have also spent a long time neglecting it. I might start writing and post regularly for a couple of months, but inevitably I stop and move on to doing something else. But always I come back.
My friend Caitlin is currently participating in an orientation and mobility immersion programme, and I have really enjoyed reading her blog posts about her experiences. It made me realise that I loved writing about my own daily life, and it is something I have started to miss.
I suppose I reached a point where I felt people only cared about what I had to say if I was sharing information with them. I had to be useful and informative, otherwise they wouldn’t think I had anything of value to say. So, I stopped writing because the things I wanted to write about didn’t feel important enough.
There is some truth in all of this. I expect posts like this may get a small handful of readers, whereas my more informative posts could get hundreds or thousands of readers. But does that matter? It is true that I write so that other people can read it, but I also write because I enjoy putting my words on the page. It is a way of processing my thoughts and experiences, and I share it here in case it does resonate with someone else.
I’m not going to say I will write regularly. Perhaps I will, but there’s an equal chance that I won’t. However I would like to start writing a little more, and stop myself from giving up because I think nobody will care.
